Each metal has unique characteristics which may impact on your decision of which metal to choose for your engagement ring setting. A way to decide on the metal setting is to take note of the jewellery your partner currently wears. Is she wearing platinum or gold?

Remember the metal of the band is vitally important as it houses the diamond. And, not all settings can house all diamond shapes and sizes.

One way to compare all 3 metal types is on hardness, which in turn will give you an idea of the durability which may be a deciding factor for your selection. Referring to Mohs scale of hardness ? a tool used by geologists to measure mineral hardness, 1 being the softest and 10 being the hardest, you can see below where these settings sit.
